Christine Bresnahan has worked in the IT industry for more than 30 years and is currently an adjunct professor of Python programming and Linux system administration classes at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis. Richard Blum has more than 25 years as a network and systems administrator, currently managing Microsoft, Unix, Linux, and Novell servers for a network with more than 3,500 users. Great intro book on GNU/Linux

There's not much difference between the first edition and this second edition, though the first is 344 pages and this new is 342 pages. There are rearrangements with some chapters here and there. So if you have the 1st edition, not much difference with the new.

One thing I did not understand is what changes has been between the first and the second edition. The authors are not the same: 1st ed.: Roderick W. Smith & 2nd ed.: Christine Bresnahan and Richard Blum.

Lastly, if you want to learn about Linux and how to use it, whether it is for personal use or because of the certification, it's a great start.

An excellent resource for anyone who communicates to groups of people frequently, or infrequently. The power of an image is immense and Dr Elmore has creative a very practical resource that will stick in my mind each time I communicate. The 'Windows & Mirrors' image is especially powerful as a youth worker, as I want to help young people reflect on who they are as individuals and what they desire from and in life.

About the Author
James A. Henretta is a Professor Emeritus of American History at the University of Maryland, College Park. His publications include The Evolution of American Society, 1700-1815: An Interdisciplinary Analysis; "Salutary Neglect": Colonial Administration under the Duke of Newcastle; Evolution and Revolution: American Society, 1600-1820; The Origins of American Capitalism; and an edited volume, Republicanism and Liberalism in America and the German States, 1750-1850. Recent publications include "Magistrates, Common Law Lawyers, Legislators: The Three Legal Systems of British America," in The Cambridge History of Law in America and "Charles Evans Hughes and the Strange Death of Liberal America," in Law and History Review, derived from his ongoing research on the liberal state in America: New York, 1820-1975. During his career, Henretta taught at Sussex, Princeton, UCLA, and Boston University. He served as a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Australia and as the Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford University.

Eric Hinderaker is Professor of History and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Utah.  His research explores early modern imperialism, relations between Europeans and Native Americans, and comparative colonization.  His publications include The Two Hendricks: Unraveling a Mohawk Mystery, which won the Dixon Ryan Fox Prize; Elusive Empires: Constructing Colonialism in the Ohio Valley, 1673-1800; and, with Peter C. Mancall, At the Edge of Empire: The Backcountry in British North America.  He is currently working on two books, one about the Boston Massacre and another, with Rebecca Horn, on patterns of European colonization in the Americas.

Rebecca Edwards is a Professor of History at Vassar College. Her research interests focus on the post-Civil War era and include electoral politics, environmental history, and the history of women and gender roles. She is the author of Angels in the Machinery: Gender in American Party Politics from the Civil War to the Progressive Era and New Spirits: Americans in the "Gilded Age," 1865-1905. She is currently working on a biography of women's rights advocate and People's Party orator Mary E. Lease.Robert O. Self is Professor of History at Brown University. His research focuses on urban history, American politics, and the post-1945 United States. He is the author of American Babylon: Race and the Struggle for Postwar Oakland, which won four professional prizes, including the James A. Rawley Prize from the Organization of American Historians, and All in the Family: The Realignment of American Democracy Since the 1960s. He is currently at work on a book about the centrality of houses, cars, and children to family consumption in the twentieth-century United States. He teaches courses on the postwar United States; the history of political movements; the history of gender, sex, and the family; and urban history.

Hot, Sexy, Enchanting and Romantic!

This story really pulled at my heart strings...Yes, it was hot, sexy and erotic; but there was so much tenderness and romance in the story. Not just in bed, but between the characters. The story and the characters pulled me in and after 3 prior Novellas, I have come to know the characters well and love them.

I recommend reading the entire series...a bit bummed that it is over, but it ended so wonderfully.

Now that I have all 4 Novellas on my kindle, I plan to read them in succession.

Teeny-tiny book

I bought this book from Amazon directly and never saw it "live" in a bookstore. My warning - it is a very small book. It's 70 pages long, but the font is huge and most of the pages are half empty. They really tried to make it look bigger at least at the first glance - didn't help, though.
The content is OK, but you can read a Wikipedia article on OAuth instead of this book. It should have been a chapter in a book on security; by itself it looked like a joke when I got it in the mail.
I am giving it 3 stars, not less, because, once again, the content is OK and it does give you OAuth overview. No code examples, just diagrams and HTTP requests, but that was enough for me. However, I still feel a bit stupid for actually paying money on something I could read up on the Internet for free.

Portia Nathan, the overly dedicated 38-year-old Princeton admissions officer, narrator of Korelitz's overthought fourth novel, finds purpose in her gatekeeper role. But her career and conscience are challenged after she visits a down-at-the-heels New England town on a scouting trip and meets Jeremiah, a talented but rough-around-the-edges 17-year-old who maybe doesn't measure up as Princeton material. The real rub is how making his acquaintance forces Portia to confront a painful secret from her past that ties into some domestic discord with her professor friend, David, and may lead her into a career-endangering fracas with the admissions board. The narrative is slow out of the gate, though it gets some pep once the Jeremiah-Portia angle comes into focus. And even if Portia tends to ruminate in an precious way, Korelitz makes good use of the sociological issues tied up in elite university admissions. (Apr.)

Portia Nathan is a thirty-eight-year-old admissions officer at Princeton University, a place so discriminating that it can afford to turn down applicants who are “excellent in all of the ordinary ways” in favor of the utterly extraordinary—“Olympic athletes, authors of legitimately published books, Siemens prize winners, working film or Broadway actors, International Tchaikovsky Competition violinists.” Portia compares her job to “building a better fruit basket” and achieves career success by helping her institution pluck the most exotic specimens, but her personal life is permanently on hold because of a traumatic incident from her own college years that she has never come to terms with. Although the reader may unravel the mystery of Portia’s past before the plot does, the novel gleams with acute insights into what most consider a deeply mysterious process.

Compassionate, vulnerable, and surprisingly likable, protagonist Portia Nathan struck a chord with critics, who described her as “wonderfully complex” (Los Angeles Times) and “utterly real” (Entertainment Weekly). Korelitz, a Dartmouth graduate and former Princeton admissions reader, offers a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at the college admission process. Critics were split, however, on whether parents with teens should seek out this title. On the one hand, Admission is a helpful guide for parents and students interested in learning about admission etiquette. On the other, the novel may strike terror in the hearts of parents with Ivy League hopes and bright, but unexceptional, children.

A good story

I began this book initially interested in the admissions process. I really enjoyed the first section that focused mainly on Portia's work and dealing with students. My interest waned a little when it started to get into her personal life, because I felt it was distracting me from what I really wanted to know. However, as I continued, I found I really enjoyed how the two parts of her life worked together to complete the story. While I did predict some of the plot, I was surprised by enough of it to keep reading. I did feel that parts of the book would be well serviced by some good editing; some points were really driven into the ground. All in all, I really enjoyed this book.

Interesting, well-written, but implausible

I enjoyed Jean Hanff Korelitz's "The White Rose" immensely, and was equally intrigued by the college setting and plot premise of this book. And because I do enjoy her writing and have enormous respect for the earnestness with which she researched and portrays the college admission process, I was captivated by those portions of the book dealing with Portia's professional life. There came a point however, about midway into the book, where the growing cast of stereotypical characters and wildly improbable plot twists sank this from a 5-star to a less enthusiastic 3-star review. Susannah, a mother so wrapped up in saving the world that she's oblivious to her own daughter's plight. John Halsey, the sensitive, well-bred, but oh-so-well-meaning amd sexy former Dartmouth classmate with whom Portia is reunited on her visit to the Quest School. And so on. And Portia has a secret - we know that early on, as it is referred to in vague references when she meets John, and It surfaces again with growing glints of clarity as the novel progresses, finally bursting forth like the penultimate episode of a Lifetime melodrama. My empathy for Portia evaporated at that point, and I finished the book feeling angry and annoyed with the implausible plot line and tidy feel-good denouement.
