Summary of Intro to Human Disease

It has a lot of information in it and put into language people can understand. If you have never taken a course in any type of biology or pathophysiology, this book would be too advanced for that person. If you have taken these types of courses, you would be able to understand everything presented.

About the Author
Rosalind Charlesworth, Ph.D., is professor emerita and retired department chair in the Department of Child and Family Studies at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. During her tenure at Weber State University, she worked with the faculty of the Department of Teacher Education to develop continuity from preprimary to primary school in the program for students in the early childhood education licensure program. She also contributed as a guest presenter in the Elementary Mathematics Methods class. Dr. Charlesworth is known for her contributions to research on early childhood teachers' beliefs and practices. She taught courses in early education and child development at other universities before joining the faculty at Weber State University. In 1999, she was the co-recipient of the NAECTE/Allyn & Bacon Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher Educator award. In 2014 she received the Legacy Award from the WSU Child and Family Studies Department in recognition of her contributions to early childhood education. Dr. Charlesworth has provided service to the field through active involvement in professional organizations and is currently on the editorial board of the Early Childhood Education Journal.

I bought this book here since my school was out of them and my class had started sooner..I really needed it so I had no option but to buy an old version..So I received this book in a nice box and it was in perfect shape. Some pages were highlited, but no ripped pages as I thought. It was an Old book, but very helpful through out my semester :)

About the Author

Brett Bevell is the author of The Reiki Magic Guide To Self Attunement (Crossing Press 2007), the forthcoming book Reiki for Spiritual Healing (Crossing Press 2009) as well as the poetry books America Needs A Woman President (Monkfish Publishing 2007) and America Needs A Buddhist President (White Cloud Press 2004), a poem that initially aired nationwide on NPR's All Things Considered.. Magic Made Accessible, Healing Made Magical

I have been a fan of Brett Bevell's work since he published his first Reiki book, The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-Attunement. Every book he writes makes energy healing even more accessible, creative, and artistic. With Reiki for Spiritual Healing, his teachings enabled me to do complex and artistically pleasing energy healing treatments with the power of my Higher Self and just a few words. New Reiki Software for Divine Living made Reiki an even deeper interactive spiritual experience that both made the energy so simple it was hard to feel, but so profound, deep, mystical, and in touch with the Divine that it is worth reading again and again. Energy Healing for Everyone is his most spiritual book so far, and I believe will help awaken more divine self-awareness and positive human experiences in our world.

This book, The Wizard's Guide to Energy Healing, is by far Brett's most playful book on energy healing. All of my life I have had an obsession with magic, energy healing, meditation, shamanism, mysticism, New Age and New Thought books, occultism, witchcraft, and so on. I've read hundreds of books on a wide variety of mystical subjects, and very very few make magic so accessible, so playful, so energetic, and so powerfully healing and spiritual as the Magical Awakening system. I have only worked with the first attunement, and already I am enjoying my personal sessions and am sharing the energy with friends, family, and my devoted "guinea pigs" who willingly allow me to experiment with energy work with them. Love it - A must try for everyone!!

I ordered this book because I really loved Brett's Reiki book's..From the moment I started reading this book I could literally "feel" all this soft healing energy flowing through my entire being and I could not put it down.. To be honest, I am skeptical but the sensations that came out of this book were so tangible I couldn't wait to do the first level of empowerment and I was blown away! I am a total believer - I have been feeling so much lighter, calmer and more peaceful since playing with these tools..I can't even say which tool is my favorite but I do love having a real magical wand :-) (you will see what I mean). If you are at all curious, or just want a healing, or desire to help your consciousness expand, want to heal other people, then definitely read this book. It is a very easy read - I felt like I was being feed the worlds best dessert. The book literally plays back with you! I hope you give it a try. You won't be disappointed because it is so simple!!! - There are no heady instructions or work on your part - its all about play and receiving. Thank You for this Brett!!

I love it!

My copy of "The Wizard's Guide to Energy Healing" arrived on Sunday.
As I removed the seal from the package the book nearly burst forth from it's confines, casting Magical Awakening energy everywhere. It was as if it had lain in wait on its journey to my home, barely able to contain its magical power until freed.

I've received so many healings from it already...I keep it sitting beside me as I work at the computer and carry on a conversation with it....and the healing energies pour forth.

I love it!

Hand Me Down Princess by Carol Gammel Moncado is one of the best books I have read in a while. It has romance, mystery, faith, and also leaves room for more and I can't wait for more.

Malachi and Jessabelle have never been on a date before they are married and thrust into the crazy life of royals. Jessabelle must learn how to be a princess and a wife all at once and, having led a very sheltered life with little attention or affection from her father, she also has to find her confidence. All of this while the people around her are expecting her to fail. She and her new husband lean on their faith to find their way.

This book introduces new characters while keeping us up to date with characters from the Montevaro Monarchy Series.

This story tells how Malachi, a prince, is ordered to marry, Jessabelle, the daughter of a friend of the king who saved his life as a teen and made a promise that one of his sons would marry her. They are thrown together by order and yet Malachi swears he will not follow in his father, the kings, footsteps because he wants to be a good husband to his wife. Jessabelle feels that she could never live up to being the kind of princess that the royal family desires. She has some terrible things happen when she is initially thrown into the public eye. Although Malachi tries to be with her to help her along the way, things occur that are out of his hands and she tends to make a terrible impression her first few times out. What can Malachi do to help his bride, his princess, feel comfortable in her new status as princess and wife to him? Will he ever be able to make her feel like she's not the hand-me-down princess that she sees her self? This is another excellent book by author Carol Moncado! She fills the pages with emotion from laughing at silly things, to sheer joy in wonderful moments, tears in the sad...making you want to finish the book to get all the details rather than putting it down! I strongly recommend this book! Too excited for the next book(s) in this series! I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

OH.MY.GOSH, I'm wiping tears. Just finished this book and I have to say, I've read the whole series up to this point and loved this one the best so far! Malachai - ohmygoodness, he is like the most perfect prince you could ever imagine! I adored his character! I got a little perturbed at Jessabelle at times (lol I love the play on that, since Malachai is a Biblical name, it's like the author took the name Jezebel and redeemed her, loved that it was the combination of two names. awesome.) But Jessabelle's actions would make me stop and work it out in my mind - now why did she say that, or do that? Ok...it's because of...... She was a complex character, indeed, and by the end, I could identify with her and understand where she was coming from. Malachai I loved the entire time. And may I say thank you to Carol for creating this awesome trio of countries and families of royals that are true Christians! I love that practically the first thing they do when something happens is to stop and pray. I'm a practicing Christian myself, and I want to say thank you, because many aspects of these books have inspired me to an even closer walk with Jesus. I loved the insight into the daily lives of the royals, and I loved how very human she makes each one. The only one still cardboard in my mind is William, but I'm assuming he gets his own book, lol. So - kudos to my newest favorite author! Thanks for a job well done!

I'm recommending and/or giving this book to everyone I know

I purchased this book from a book store a few days ago, and am now planning a spice shopping spree. I had no idea, although perhaps I should have guessed, that spices provide such dramatic health benefits--and that's in addition to making my food taste delicious! Each spice has a dedicated chapter, which is part history lesson, part biology lesson, and part cooking lesson--going so far as to detail what other spices blend well with it, how to shop for it, how to store it, how long it lasts in various forms, as well as a tested recipe highlighting that particular spice.

I love to cook, and now I intend to diversify my spice rack, as well as use them more liberally!

Wonderful Book .....I can't say enough about this book ....It helped save my life

My wife bought this book from Amazon for me about a year ago and now I have bought 8 more for family and friends. I plan on ordering more for Christmas presents.
2 1/2 years ago the doctors gave me 2 years to live ...I was 4th stage melonia cancer...I took no chemo, radation, no treatment at all....they test me every 6 months and they say they can't find any cancer. By the grace of God and God showing my wife what spices and herbs to use in a smoothie which she makes me every morning( she read this book cover to cover and researched the spices and herbs herself to make sure ). I can't say enough good things about this book.

Superb up-to-date, evidence-based book on healing spices

I looked at a bunch of books on healing herbs and spices and realized that the most important quality in such a book should be an up-to-date, evidence-based treatment of the various healing qualities of the herbs/spices, followed by instruction on how to incorporate the herbs/spices into one's diet. This book does a remarkably fine job of both, and is also attractively put together and entertaining to read.

You really appreciate the quality of this book when you compare it with inferior books on the topic. Other books typically provide useless speculation, typically along the lines of, "many old wives use this to cure that". It was strangely entertaining to compare different books and find them claiming different herbs/spices as effective for healing whatever ails you. Dr. Aggarwal, the author of Healing Spices, is always careful to quote studies to support his assertions. (As a researcher, myself, I would have liked to have the actual reference; however, I can live with "a study from the University of Tokyo found").

Dr. Aggarwal (who is a professor in the department of experimental therapeutics in the division of cancer medicine at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston) does provide some actual recipes that incorporate the "healing spices"; however, this is not his strong suit. If you find any useful recipes, think of them as a bonus.

I ordered this book after originally taking it out of the library. If found that I was keeping it next to my bed. Yup, this one was obviously a keeper and I have already changed my diet based on this book. If you want just one book on this topic, this book is the one to get.

A Classic

This book first came out in the 1930s and presents the prevailing methodology of artist's materials of that era. The book contains no illustrations and is meant to be read, not looked at. The information presented in this volume is both specific and broad, and certainly for the patient reader who takes time to study what it has to say, the book will yield much fruit. This volume contains a wealth of information and together with Ralph Mayer's "The Artist's Handbook" and Charles Eastlake's "Methods and Materials of Painting of the Great Schools and Masters" presents a comprehensive and thoughtful overview of traditional art materials and how these were handled during the past four centuries. I highly recommend it.

For the classical artist

A very useful book. I like it more than "The Painter's Handbook" by Mark David Gottsegen. Max Doerner gives the artist insight into how the old masters prepared their canvases and the materials they used. "The Materials Of The Artist" is for the classically trained artist. For instance, he mentions the use of Champagne (or French) chalk as the best in the making of gesso. As for making paints he discusses the use of pigments, that although often toxic yield beautiful colors if prepared carefully.

Excellent but might not be the whole story

Max Doerner (1870-1939) taught at Academy of Fine Arts in Munich for 25+ years, and in his day an major expert on painting techniques. This book has played a major role in art history and research since the first day it was published. Do note the book was first published in 1934, and then translated from German, hence the writing style can be somewhat turbid. Perseverance pays with there being more information in here than you can shake a stick at.

My comment about being careful is a result of recent studies of old master paintings. The old masters would typically have a team of apprentices working alongside them, mixing paint, painting parts of the painting that the master was probably too bored to bother with (as well as good training for the apprentice) etc. The Master/Apprentice setup allowed for a continuous stream of knowledge being passed along the generations. However as oil paint technology advanced, in particular the ability to buy premixed paints off the shelf, the painter no longer needed a team of apprentices. He could pretty much get by on his own. Hence there was no longer anyone for the painter to pass on his knowledge to. This resulted in a considerable amount of technical knowledge being lost. (A good example is the recent theory promulgated by David Hockney that the old masters were able to paint such realistic paintings as they used rudimentary projection techniques to place a guide image on the canvas, overwhich they painted. No one knows if he is right or wrong).

From the 1800's on, technical experts such as Doerner and Charles Eastlake ("Methods and Materials of Painting") began to impart their wisdom on how the old master paintings were created. But the techniques thay had available were very rudimentary, more often than not being a case of the expert trying to reproduce a certain style and looking at the painting surface close up. The experts proferred their theories and techniques, often with much aplomb leaving no room for doubt. Unfortunately they were often quite off the mark - they could emulate a style somewhat but never 100%. There are too many variables involved even for a discerning eye. It has only been with recent advances in scientific analysis, usually chemistry based, that a truer understanding of the old master technique is finally being determined. Van Wettering's excellent "Rembrandt - the painter at work" book details the findings of extensive research carried out on a number of paintings considered to have been painted by Rembrandt. The book is 340 pages, and they still haven't got all the answers. But what they have done is to throw in to doubt the theories and techniques of the 19th/20th C experts.

There is a welter of information in this book, but if you are trying to perfectly replicate a certain old master painterly technique, and failing to do so, then be warned the experts might not be such experts afterall.

All said and done, I do recommend this book for the wealth of information it contains. Along with oil painting it addresses pastels, tempera and mural techniques. Even if you do take the techniques in here as verbatim for an old master then there is all likelihood that you'll create a great painting.
