Highly Recommended for those starting a career in development!

The author paints a clear, concise and realistic perspective of the realities, challenges, and best avenues toward employment for a career in relief and development. This book is well worth reading BEFORE starting your first volunteer/job/internship search such that you can fully understand the career path ahead before starting off on the wrong foot.

A MUST read for those considering the humanitarian field

This book really kicked into my senses of what needs to be done and what to expect in getting into the humanitarian workforce. Before I read this book, my thoughts were "oh I'll easily get hired, since it's just volunteer-like work and I'm strongly passionate and caring about others less fortunate.. plus everyone I'll work with should be super happy and motivated since everyone is working along the same exact values" Nope. Super naive of me, but I'm glad I read this while I'm still in the middle of choosing a college degree, cause now I'll choose wisely and I'm motivated more than ever and more actualized of the realities of humanitarian work. This book jump started my reading of other books that also explain getting into relief and development. Loved it. Not long at all, I finished it in one sitting.
